The Book Closes on 2015
Hello everyone! I know this is a little late, as it is nearly the end of January… but I still think we need to talk about 2015 a little bit :)
Life got very hectic at the end of 2015 for me, hence why this post is so late (the craziness flowed over into the new year). But there is still a lot to talk about for the year that passed.
What has been the best part of blogging in 2015?
I was a pretty bad blogger in 2015. Life got crazy, and my reading and blogging time slowly slipped away. I won’t bore you with all the issues I had to deal with, I won’t bore you with all of that, but it certainly affected my bookish commitments, therefore I don’t know if I can say I had a “best part of blogging” as a blogger. But other than the fact that I don’t feel like I have achieved much in 2015, the best part of blogging is by far you guys - the readers, the bloggers, the friends that I have made in this wonderful bookish community!
What has been your bookish highlight of 2015?
I have to say meeting Sarah J Maas was definitely the highlight! Sarah is such an amazing author, and such a truly beautiful person. Meeting this lovely, dedicated and fabulous author was without a doubt my favourite bookish part of 2015!
What have you enjoyed most about books in 2015?
The variety! There have been some amazing books come out in 2015, in a lot of different genres. And in all honesty, some of these books have raised the bar!
And speaking of raising the bar, we also saw some books that are truly unique in 2015. Books like Illuminae - which… WOW! It is books like this, that are original and glorious, that get me excited for the future of books!
What is your favourite book to movie adaptation of 2015?
To me, 2015 wasn’t great for book to movie/tv adaptation. Paper Towns I didn’t really like. I haven’t read the book, and I must admit the movie didn’t inspire me to pick it up. And well, 50 Shades I refused to see (since I won’t read the book, why on earth would I watch the movie) And likewise, I haven’t seen Maze Runner - but that is just because I haven’t had the chance, not because I don’t want to. I enjoyed The Duff, but I can’t say I lurved it.
And Insurgent, well, that was okay…
So, I am going to have to go with Mockingjay Part 2. I will admit, I had issues with parts of it (and I hysterically laughed in parts that were not intentionally funny), but overall, I did enjoy it.
What has been your favourite book(s) of 2015?
I know you all think that because Laini Taylor didn’t bring out a book in 2015, that surely I didn’t love any books. But… that is not true! I loved a lot of books in 2015. And here are my favourites:
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven: I actually read this book in 2014, but it was released in 2015, so I am including it in my list (too bad if you think that is cheating!). This book is AMAZING! I adore this book so much. It crushed my heart into teeny tiny pieces, and even though I ugly-cried, I enjoyed every beautiful and tortuous word in this must read book! Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard: With lots of layers, Red Queen is dark and edgy, filled with action and betrayal, and overall, a fantastic start to a new YA fantasy series. You have everything you could need; oppressive society, and one girl willing to change it all! My review can be found here.
A Court of Thorns and Roses(A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J Maas: I will admit, I was worried about a new series from Sarah J Maas. Not because I don’t trust her abilites, but because I thought this may distract from her Throne of Glass series. But I did not need to worry, the ToG series is still going strong, and this series - WOW! It is a little more adult than Sarah’s other series, but it started strong and had me enthralled from start to finish! My review can be found here.
An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir): Brutality, darkenss, determination and rawness at it’s very best! This series had an amazing start with An Ember in the Ashes, with amazing world building, both engrossing and gorgeous, as well as being not shying away from a world filled with despair and deplorable characters. Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4) by Sarah J Maas: Another fantastic instalment to this phenomenal series. For me, this series just keeps getting better and better - and although I may not like everything that happens in the storyline *coughnothappyaboutthatthingcough*, I am super impressed with the depth of all the characters, the twists and turns, as well as how the story weaves together in certain places. Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: WOW. That is all I can say about the crazy amazing book! It is stunning! It is mind blowing. You just really need to read this book! It is an experience that you shouldn’t miss - it is the most visually stunning book you will ever have the pleasure of reading! It is clever, intriguing and you will get want more of this unique book. Seriously, run out and get it. RUN! NOW! GO! My review can be found here.
What has been your least favourite book(s) of 2015?
Resonance by Caline Kiernan: I just did not connect to this book. Although it had everything that would normally attracted me to a book; a pretty shiny cover, historical fantasy with a touch of gothic mystery, I just could not connect to this book. I personally found it slow, confusing and disengaging. However, it did have a lovely prose and great world building - it just all came too slowly for me. My review can be found here.
Twisted Fate by Norah Olson: Twisted Fate was another book that I didn’t overly enjoy in 2015. Although the synposis once again promised many things I would love, such as mystery and intensity, for me it fell completely flat. I guessed the “twist”, which in itself is okay, but how the twist was delivered raised more questions than answers, and I was left feeling confused. To me, what could have been an amazing ending, lacked lustre and left me thinking “WHAT??” rather than “WOW”. My review can be found here.
