Rating: 5 out of 5

Synopsis: A chance encounter in the dark leads eighteen-year-old Daniel and the girl who stumbles across him to profess their love for each other. But this love comes with conditions: they agree it will only last one hour and it will only be make-believe.
When their hour is up and the girl rushes off like Cinderella, Daniel tries to convince himself that what happened between them only seemed perfect because they were pretending it was perfect. Moments like that with girls like her don’t happen outside of fairytales.

One year and one bad relationship later, his disbelief in insta-love is stripped away the day he meets Six: a girl with a strange name and an even stranger personality. Daniel soon realizes the way he pretended to feel about Cinderella and the way he really feels about Six may not be so different after all. Especially when the two loves of his life end up being one in the same.

Unfortunately for Daniel, finding Cinderella doesn’t guarantee their happily ever after…it only further threatens it

Review: You could say that I was excited about a Hopeless/Losing Hope novella that was about the hysterically funny, nickname giving, crazy Daniel! Ridiculously excited in fact. I absolutely loved Hopeless and Losing Hope, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Finding Cinderella, even if it was only about 100 pages.

I utterly lived meeting Daniel in Losing Hope. He was extremely charismatic, sarcastic and hilarious, so I was very excited for him to get his own story. In Finding Cinderella, I totally fell in love with Daniel - to the point that he nearly had me reconsidering my declared love for Holder (I didn’t think it was possible for someone to come close to Holder, but he did it).

Finding Cinderella opens with a prologue about Daniel and his encounter with his Cinderella. For those who have read Losing Hope, you will know that Daniel briefly explains his story about Cinderella, but that was nothing like hearing the full story from Daniel’s POV. The full story was so sweet, and you instantly get to see another side to him - and that side is utterly adorable! So, so adorable.

This novella then flicks to the story of Daniel and the quirky and amusing Six. As soon as Daniel meets Six he is instantly attracted to her - and vice versa. Their connection is rather interesting, as it is rather intense, and for these characters it is also out of character. Neither are the “relationship type”, but it clear that these too will end up in one, so they don’t try to fight it. And the relationship that follows is adorable (yes, I know I am saying that a lot) - their banter with each other, the way they are so comfortable with each other, their similar humour, and yes, how quickly they fall for each other.

So many good feels throughout this book - so much adorableness, so much cuteness, and SO much laughter! Daniel continues to provide as many laughs as possible (he will not change for anyone) - and when you aren’t thinking “awwww”, you will be smiling and laughing your way through this story. Daniel and Six both provide lots of laughs, but a special mention also has to be made for Daniels family! His father in particular. There is one scene between Daniel, Six and Daniel’s father (followed by his mother and sister) that had me laughing out loud and I actually felt bad for Daniel in that way that you do when you know someone is embarrassed, but you still laugh at their expense.

I don’t know why, but I thought this novella would be a nice little fluffy read. I thought maybe it might have a little drama when the whole Cinderella thing came out, but WOW! Why did I think that Colleen couldn’t manage to rip your heart out in 100 pages??? Of course it wasn’t going to be all rainbows and cupcakes - it was written by Colleen Hoover! This novella, while it may be short, sure does pack a punch. An utterly amazing, tortuous, funny and sweet novella - Colleen Hoover has won my heart again!

Colleen Hoover has written this novella, and provided it for free, as a thank you to her fans. But, as a fan, I would like to thank Colleen for her amazing books, but also for being so humble and thankful to her fans!

Finding Cinderella can be read as a standalone - but I think you will appreciate it much more if you know the backstory of Six and Daniel (even Holder, Sky and Breckin) before going into this one (and due to the themes and language in this book, I recommend it to more mature readers). But, even so, Finding Cinderella is a wonderfully written, highly entertaining and touching novella and I am so thankful that Colleen wrote it for us!

Quotes:

“It feels sort of euphoric, like we’re in some sort of fairy tale. Like she’s Tinkerbell and I’m Peter Pan.
No, wait. I don’t want to be Peter Pan.
Maybe she can be like Cinderella and I’ll be her Prince Charming.”

“I can’t stop staring at that spoon. I think I love that spoon.”

“You just made herpes sound appealing.”

“I’m not ashamed to admit that I love a guy. I love you, Holder. Daniel Wesley loves Dean Holder. Always and forever.”

“We pretend”

What do you think?

  • I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of NA, which was why I was so surprised when I enjoyed HOPELESS as much as I did! And I never knew that there were novellas (obviously, I’m not very updated), but even though you enjoyed FINDING CINDERELLA, I doubt I’ll be reading it — novellas just aren’t my thing! >.<

Hmm, I'm guessing that we meet Daniel in LOSING HOPE? I haven't read that yet, but ooh does he sound like an awesomesauce character! "charismatic, sarcastic and hilarious” — Great ways to win my heart. ;) But it’s so good to hear that Six is FINALLY getting a steady boyfriend! If I remember correctly, she and Sky were always bringing boys into their bedrooms to play around for a bit before chasing them away.

Neither are the “relationship type”, but it clear that these too will end up in one, so they don’t try to fight it.” — Boy, am I glad to hear this. I absolutely hate it when couples who have sizzling chemistry try to fight it by finding all kinds of dumb reasons to push the other away. It’s friggin’ annoying. It’s good to finally have a romance where no one is trying to fight the attraction! Haha, and I’m all for adorable relationships. I always thought Six was more of the wild type, though. :P

Oh, Kristy. If there’s one thing about Colleen Hoover, it’s that never trust her books’ synopses. They may sound innocent, but the actual book is deep and dark. But wow, ripping your heart out in such a short novella? THAT’S talent. You’re actually making me quite interested to read it to see what goes on inside it! And I think Colleen is ultra sweet for writing this free novella as a thank-you to her fans. Authors like that are the best. <3

Lovely review, Kristy! I might check this out one day (I'm really keen to, because I just love putting myself on emotional roller coasters).

P.S. I love both you and Mel's blog! It's so cute!

      Hi Megan.
NA does contain a lot of things that may not appeal to everyone (myself included), but there are certain types of books in this genre that I really enjoy.

I also understand that novellas are also something that doesn’t appeal to everyone - and I can be a bit the same way. But this one - WOW!

Yes, Daniel was in Losing Hope. He is Holder’s best friend (they have such a great friendship). If you liked Hopeless, I highly recommend Losing Hope (and not just for Daniel - but he is indeed awesomesauce!)

I know that Colleen often rips out your heart and stomps on it - I guess that I just thought being a shorter story, it wouldn’t happen - and boy I was wrong! She is an amazing writer! (and awesome for giving us this novella for free!)

I hope that you enjoy Losing Hope and Finding Cinderella if you get around to reading them - I am utterly in love with them, and they both compliment Hopeless beautifully!

And thank you :) We love our blog too, but since we are biased, it’s great to hear that you love it too!
